USAGE:
(1.) Русские Извините! , Простите! Соответствуют английским Excuse me, I'm sorry и Pardon? . Все три выражения используются тогда, когда что-то не расслышали и просят повторить то, что было сказано, или когда совершен какой-либо проступок, о котором сожалеют, и хотят извиниться: Sorry! (Excuse me!) What did you say? Простите, что Вы сказали?; Sorry (Excuse me), I didn't mean it. Простите, я не это хотел сказать. (2.) Только excuse me употребляется в тех случаях, когда о чем-либо просят или обращаются с вопросом: Excuse me, can you tell me the time? Простите, не скажете ли Вы сколько сейчас времени? (3.) Excuse me обычно употребляется в прямой речи, при непосредственном обращении к собеседнику. В косвенной речи русское "извиниться перед кем-либо" передается глаголом to apologize to smb (for smth) и реже to excuse oneself: I think you must apologize to him for having kept him waiting. Думаю, Вам надо перед ним извиниться за то, что Вы заставили его ждать. He excused himself and left the room Он извинился и вышел. (4.) See mind, v; USAGE (1.). (5.) See confuse, v
